Lesson plans on language and linguistics in K-12 education
This lesson plan covers food names in Arabic. It also includes the verbs "I like" and "I don't like."
Arabic Lesson Plan
Learning Objectives:
Be able to identify where Arabic is spoken; and
Learn basic vocabulary, and be able to form a few basic sentences
Audience:
Grades k-6 (split into groups of k-3 and 4-6 with different activities)
Supplies:
• Memory cards
• Board game and pieces
• Teaching cards (vocabulary with pictures)
• Maps of the world
• Crayons
Time (about one hour):
0-5 minutes: Welcome; gt kids settled in a large group
5-10 minutes: Where do they speak Arabic?; everyone gets a map of the world and crayons; children color in where we live and where Arabic is spoken (following example on board)
5-10 minutes: Learn Vocabulary; using teaching cards, say words in English, then Arabic, and have the students repeat the words in Arabic
0-5 minutes: Split group into k-3 and 4-6 (distribute snacks)
20-25 minutes: Play games in age groups; youngsters play “Memory” or “Go Fish” with the memory game cards and practice saying the vocabulary words as they turn thepictures over/make matches. Older youngsters play the board game and practice vocabulary and making sentences. Both groups need a teacher to help them.
10-15 minutes: Come together as a large group; review vocabulary and take questions.
0-5 minutes: Clean-up room; reminder of when the next meeting time is, good bye.
